Why it always happens to 'YOU' !!!

by Wela on 20 July 2005 03:55

In most of the medium and small scale IT companies I have seen, there is a common fact that one (or two) work their ass off while others work on a normal 'office' schedule. Have you ever thought about why this happens to only one or two.

Well ... as I see there can be several reasons for this ...

Speed - If we assume the workload assigned to everybody is the same and you are slow in doing yours then of course you will have to work creasy hours everyday. Only solution for this is you have to improve your self.

Unorganized - If the work schedule is unorganized you may be wasting most of your time searching for missing things, etc etc ... basically trying to straighten up the mess ... which ends up with couple of creasy hours everyday. If this is the case I recommend that you start 'organizing' things ... as a start get a piece of paper write down the things you have to do.

Disparity - If your management is assigning unbalanced workloads, which means in other words management is doing 'favors' to some employees. This is something like ... 'they' can go home early and people who work hard can go to hell. If the situation is like this I recommend that you find another job.

Responsibility - Normally the person who is taking the responsibility for a project have some more work than others in the team . That's why you are the called leader in the team. If this is your case ... bring up your happy face and keep up the good work . But if you try you can avoid creasy hours.

Responsibility (Model 2) -This means you are the man who is taking the responsibility to all the things and others in the team acts like ' we don't give a shit'. This is the reason I have faced mostly in my current work place as I'm responsible for each and every project. I directly deal with the clients. Whenever there is a delay/error from a developers/designers side I use to sit and work on it because at the end of the day I have to keep my word to the client, it is my responsibility. It's a combined thing ... my designers/developers are responsible to me and I'm responsible to the client etc etc. Considering the fact 'everybody is human and can do mistakes/errors' I was never 'hard' on them, always only advised them, and in such cases I took the responsibility on to my shoulders and worked creasy hours to resolve the situation. Even though it was difficult for me I always managed to came up from those cases. BUT after some time it seemed like some developers/designers are thinking like 'what the hell ... at the end it's Wela's responsibility, so why should we worry about it' or 'no matter what happens Wela will sit and fix it' etc etc, Which that makes my situation really worst. Anyway ... if this is your situation first try advising them to work more responsibly. If it didn't work don't hesitate at all to take the final decision - FIRE THEM and recruit new members.

Inspired by .NET ...

by Wela on 18 July 2005 03:02

Following photo is from a very old event. Today morning while I was checking my old backups saw this and it memorized the interesting story behind this .

Basically this event was there for several days and during the first couple of days whenever somebody asks a question related to .NET our friend in the photo (with the white 'T') called one of the .NET guys to look into that as he pretended he knows nothing about .NET ....

But in the last day when 'she' (was the only female entity showed up and asked some .NET questions) showed up and asked about some .NET questions, and when the entier .NET team was waiting few feets away for the 'opportunity to answer the questions' ... suddenly we were amazed to see our friend continues to answer all the questions, while we were sitting 'ducks !'.

Ha !!! ... Inspired by .NET

Lesson ...

by Wela on 13 July 2005 00:04

Lesson 1:

A sales rep, an administration clerk, and the manager are walking to lunch when they find an antique oil lamp. They rub it and a Genie comes out. The Genie says, "I'll give each of you just one wish."

"Me first! Me first!" says the admin. clerk.

"I want to be in the Bahamas, driving a speedboat, without a care in the world." Poof! She's gone.

"Me next! Me next!" says the sales rep. "I want to be in Hawaii, relaxing on the beach with my personal masseuse, an endless supply of Pina Coladas and the love of my life." Poof! He's gone.

"OK, you're up," the Genie says to the manager.
The manager says, "I want those two back in the office after lunch."

Moral of the story: Always let your boss have the first say.

Lesson 2:

A crow was sitting on a tree, doing nothing all day. A rabbit asked him, "Can I also sit like you and do nothing all day long?"

The crow answered: "Sure, why not."
So, the rabbit sat on the ground below the crow, and rested.
A fox jumped on the rabbit and ate it.

Moral of the story: To be sitting and doing nothing, you must be sitting very high up.

Lesson 3:

A turkey was chatting with a bull.
"I would love to be able to Get to the top of that tree," sighed the turkey, but I haven't got the energy."

"Well, why don't you nibble on my droppings?" replied the bull. "They're packed with nutrients."
The turkey pecked at a lump of dung and found that it gave him enough strength to reach the lowest branch of the tree.

The next day, after eating some more dung, he reached the second branch. Finally after a fourth night, there he was proudly perched at the top of the tree.

Soon he was spotted by a farmer, who shot the turkey out of the tree.

Moral of the story: Bullshìt might get you to the top, but it won't keep you there.
