14 years ago when I first saw a mobile phone the perception was ‘AWSOME’ by every means. But it was out of reach those days due to the mammoth price tag. Remember this is not a sophisticated phone as you and I see today. It was almost the size of a brick, weights as much as a brick, and had 1% of the features of a modern phone – which is the ability to make phone calls, but this was perfect at the time as it served the purpose.
But few years later a sudden rat race became the name of the game – to make the mobile phone smaller - while the rest of the world I think was trying to make things bigger. In few years’ time the good old brick phone became a ‘dinosaur’ antique gadget and the new phones that was like 1/10 the size dominated the market. Smaller once were packed with many more cool features also. Now! who the hell said ‘bigger the better’.
As I see it this trend continued until the mobile phone became too small. Too small to hold in a hand comfortably and make a button. A person with big fingers for sure had a tough time getting to press the correct button. Anyways there were choices.
Today! it seems like things are going backwards. Are you using a Windows Phone 7, Apple iPhone or Google Android? Look at the size of it. Even though these new smart phones and several other phones in the same league are big in size compared to the trend few years ago – it seems like nobody is worried. I’m not for sure.
Eagerly waiting for my next phone

I have had couple of really bad experiences with Windows Mobile over the years ... remember my 90000 paper weight.
Anyways this are a million times better after getting the HTC Fuze. right now i'm super excited about the Windows Phone (or can I call it the version 7). I'm using WinMo 6.5 at the moment with couple of custom applications from Resco and things are nice and smooth. Looking forward for the new and exciting stuff planned for the next major release of WinMo.
Despite all the ups and downs one thing I love the platform is the support for developers to develop apps. This time things are taking a much cooler route by adapting Silverlight into the core UI of the Phone. So ... Developers who cant wait to get their hands on the new device ... goto http://developer.windowsphone.com/ to get started.

Managed to 100% switch to my new tablet PC and it's awesome. It's a Lenovo X61 Tablet, 64bit, 128 VGA and 4 GB RAM.
Vista rating goes up to 3.5 and everything runs very smoothly. So to put it to the ultimate test i just opened up my virtual PC and opened up 2 instances of Windows XP Pro, 1 Instance of Windows Vista and 1 instance of Windows Server 2003 at the same time. Tried opening several applications inside these virtual machines including, SQL Server, Visual Studio 2008, Expression Blend, Express Web etc,. Still it had power to pump in. All 4 Virtual Machines ran without any problem.
Woo! Hoo! ... finally a machine without worries.

As you all know :) my HP iPAQ sucked big time earlier and even after getting the replacement unit still it sucks with a new set of problems. Things becomes worst when the response from the HP Services team in Sri Lanka is not responsible and reliable. It's even pointless to talk to them regarding this issue. I really don't want to submit this again for warranty replacements and want another 5 months to get it.
So I have given up all hopes on the phone and very soon planning to buy a better Windows Mobile with Windows Mobile 6.0.
I'll NEVER go for any HP branded products. Not even Computers of Printers ... (may be I'll consider only printers, because those are pretty good). Not because they are bad products. Just because the service is terrible. Recently I wanted to buy couple of HP Computers and a Printer. Can u believe that the distributor/supplier took exactly 2 months to deliver it ... I'll avoid mentioning names in this case :) So on the last moment I had to cancel that order. I was given MANY false dlivery dates, may be that was a trick to keep the customer occupied. There were many reasons in the list of excuses given to me. One was delays in shipping. I think even if you ship goods in a small sail boat you can get it faster than this. I'm really pissed about this because I'm still suffering from the losses caused by this delay.
Anyways ... may iPAQ rw6828 goes to hell.

I lost my iPAQ stylus during the India trip. Not exactly sure where I left it. Maybe at the Jay Pee Palace Hotel @ Agra. Nevermind it's just a stylus. But I have to wait few more days till
I get a new one. Until then a toothpick will be my acting stylus. Yeah right .. a toothpick. It looks funny. 90k rupees phone with a touch screen and a toothpick to operate it.
Yesterday I saw one gent @ KFC giving me a weird look. What da hell!

Woo! Hoo!
Finally the waiting is over. I got my Tablet PC on Friday. Shipment was almost one month delayed due to various reasons. What da hell. Finally it is here. a Big ... i mean a very big thanks for my buddy Sasinath and Revanka for hooking me up with this.
It's a Toshiba Tecra M4, with 2Ghz mobile processor, 2 Gig RAM, 128 nVidia VGA, 60 Gig 7200 RPM HDD, Bluetooth, WiFi and it costs me a fortune. But it's all worth it.

 | I have being waiting a long time to buy this. Suddenly in a unexpected time it came forward and I went for it. Still haven't at least transferred the SIM from my good old K700i. Have tons of reading, experiments to do tonight. Anyways it costs me a fortune. But it's all worth it. Dang! it feels good. Initially I was planning for the O2 Atom, But then my buddy Mahesh told that Trilobytelabs (where he works) will be bringing a similar phone under HP brand as they are the HP dealers. Thanks for all the info and support given on this. Anyways I'll have to bug you time to time for the next couple of days because I might need help figure out the entire device. Woo! Hoo! |

| | I bought this couple of weeks back, but at that time my camera was with a friend, so couldn't get few snaps to blog about it. Then somehow forgot to blog about it even though it was just in front of me every day. Well! this small gadget is a war tank I bought from http://toys.brando.com.hk, body is little less than 2 inches long and with the gun turret about 2.5 inches long. and it really works with the remote control. It's belts are powerful enough to run over all the different things on my table. Remote control unit which is also the charger is a 8 inch long stick type bomb (I guess). Remote control unit is powered with two AAA batteries. First you open the cap, plug the tank press the charge button, keep for few minutes until the LED goes off, then it is set to go. After charging it works smoothly for about 10 minutes. It's a pretty interesting gadget. But this also, like many other battery powered gadgets shows one big weakness. Which is the power source. Even today's latest batteries are not good when thinking about operating 'long times'. This is one area where many researches are working on. There are several promising technologies though. I think the one which is going to deal with liquid (methanol or something) based fuel will be the coolest. Well! that's assuming if somebody don't create a mini / micro / tiny nuclear engine which can be fit into toy cars (may be that's a stupid thought ... but who knows). Anyways that technology is not that far away. There are already several gadgets available powered with this alcohol fuel. And I remember I saw somewhere that one big laptop manufacturer very soon is going to introduce this liquid fuel based laptops to the market. Anyways, powering all our small gadgets, toys etc with fuel will be a very cool think. |
