My Vistas ...

by Wela 25. November 2007 13:10

Went through my photos collection to find some old photos to send to a friend. While doing that I selected the below photos which I think are ideal Vista wallpapers. Infact I used some of these as my wallpaper at the time it was taken. Click on the thumbnail to view the high-res.

Windows Vista Presentation @ Amal International ...

by Wela 23. May 2007 09:18

Schedule got busy and couldn't write about this earlier. And then I forgot :)

On 10th I did two presentation on Windows Vista and Office 207 @ Amal International School. First it was the presentation for about 200 students. Man! those kids were awsome. Amount of questions they asked about Vista.

One thing I noticed about IT Education in Amal International is they are very keen and enhusiased about it ... not only students ... right from the top ... school principle is also very enthusiased about IT Education in the school. and it's a very good thing that they have computer studies starting from the very junior level.

Thanks to my friend Fazmil for organizing the event.

DreamScene - Ultimate Extra

by Wela 22. February 2007 09:59

Folks who are working on Windows Vista Ultimate might have already seen this amazing feature.

DreamScene is one of the cool Ultimate Extras which enables you to put a video as your desktop background. Amazing thing is that it's not going to eat up your memory and processing power. Basically it requires only a small power from your GPU to decode the video. Among the requirements, your computer should be capable of handling Aero interface and the Translucent Selection feature must be enabled. In my machine when I put a video into the background memory usage goes up by about 3% and processor usage goes up by about 10% - 15%. But this doesn't work when the machine is connected to a projector. Not sure whether it is due to a resolution matter.

Anyways, DreamScene is awesome!!!

Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor RC

by Wela 19. November 2006 12:43

Just thought about writing this, because during last 3 days couple of buddies called to find info about ... how do I enable Aero glass effect in Vista, how do I do the flip 3D thing and so on. Basically for both these features you need a VGA card which supports. But the problem is how can we find out whether the existing VGA supports these before installing Vista. Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor RC is the solution. Go to the site, download it and run. It'll give you a report explaining what are the things that Vista will support in your machine and what will not. So you can avoid 'Post Vista installation dissapointments'

I ran the tool in my home machine and everything was perfect, so tonight i'll be installing. But scan results in my tablet gave a message saying I need a BIOS upgrade before installing Vista. Then I called the Toshiba tech support in Singapore they confirmed that the required upgrade is already installed. Anyways i'm going to give it a try as soon I get a chance.

any minute now ...

by Wela 16. November 2006 08:13

Any minute Microsoft is going to publish the Vista Final download into the MSDN site :)   I'm checking the MSDN and Bink almost every hour to here the good news. Can't wait. Have waited too long for the Vista final release.

My home machine was running on Vista Beta editions for the last 18 months and seems like now it is tired of installing the OS every month. Few days ago the hard disk started giving a 'tic tic' sounds and it feels like it's kicking my heart, I have my big ass MP3 collection in that. Things are too busy as usual to spend time to backup everything to DVDs, or to another hdd. Anyways I'm going to have to buy another big hard disk just for Vista. Or is this a good time to go for the new machine?   hmmmm!!! naaah!   i'm going to wait couple more months till Dell 30" LCD's prices comes down.

Last night I installed the Office 2007 apps, and it runs nice and smooth. There are like half a billion features to check out in the whole office suite. Let's see ...

So finally it seems like Vista is going rock our world. Just now saw the Vista packagins in Gizmodo, which looks awsome and better than any of the previous Windows or Office packings.

Windows Vista RC 1

by Wela 10. September 2006 16:05

I just finished installing Windows Vista RC 1 on my Home PC and things looks and feels great. The speed is far better than the previous builds.

ReadyBoost feature is one cool thing which will be very useful for PCs with low RAM. I wonder this ReadyBoost works the same way with the mini-SD cards. Because I have a SD/mini-SD in my Tablet PC and I can really use it, if the SD is also treated as a ReadyBoost capable thing. Well! before installing on the tablet I'll be doing a full test run on my home PC.

Still have to install all the applications. Saw in few blogs that there are some compatibility issues with some applications. Anyways I'm going to try installing all my regular applications.

Anyways, no doubt that Vista is going to rock!

Is it telling me to go for it ...

by Wela 8. March 2006 13:52

I was working on the Vista December CTP and Office 12 for couple weeks and had to switch back to Windows XP because Vista didn't had driver support some of my hardware stuff and it started giving problems. After switching back it worked smoothly. But in last couple of days it started giving problems ... unexpected sudden crashes of office applications, Hibrenate is not working ... etc etc. I have Vista February Build and Office 2007 downloaded, but still couldn't install due to my schedule got busy unexpectedly.

It sounds like ... my machine is telling me ... I NEED VISTA ... I NEED VISTA ... !!!!!!!

Windows Vista December CTP

by Wela 21. December 2005 12:42

Fingers crossed until the Windows Vista December CTP download finishes.

All the infrastructure is ready for the new version. Hope it will be a stable version. I'm thinking of running full time on Vista. I tried on a previous build, But due to too many issues had to switch back to Windows XP. Anyways this time also i'm going to give a try.

Reinstalling everything is a pain in the a**, but it's fun.

Windows Vista

by Wela 8. August 2005 15:40

As you all know couple of weeks ago Windows Longhorn was renamed to 'Windows Vista'. When I first herd about the name change I honestly didn't felt much. There were some kind of a great sound when saying ''LONGHORN''.

Today I installed Windows Vista. It's AMAZING !!! VGA drivers are perfectly ok. I still have to install and check my Sound Card, Capture Card, TV Card, Bluetooth Adaptor etc etc. Following are couple of screenshots ...

More stuff to come. Still couldn't locate the 'SideBar'. May be they have decided to completely remove it.

Longhorn Build 5048 - Installed ...

by Wela 25. May 2005 16:03

Installation is successful ... forgot to write about it, I was too exited ...

There are several considarable changes compared to the previous 4047 build.

  • Start menu: was changed completely. It was a new experience. It will take some time to switch to the new navigation system. anyway the Search feature is really cool.
  • Themes: Something seems wrong here . Only Aero theme is there, which is a really cool one. I wonder what happened to all the other previous themes.
  • SideBar: still i couldnt locate the SideBar

In general it looks like Windows XP with a cool thems. But there are lot of enhancements. Still got lot more to explore.
